Rich green hues flow through this rectangular jadeite pendant, reflecting the timeless elegance of the traditional Wu Shi Pai (无事牌). Associated with the wish to remain “safe and sound,” this plaque form conveys a heartfelt blessing for peace and wellbeing.
The jadeite displays characteristics of Piao Hua (飘花), meaning “floating flowers.” Deeper green streaks and cloud-like patches appear suspended within its lighter body, creating a delicate interplay of colour and depth. These natural formations lend the stone an individual character, reminiscent of an ink-wash landscape.
The upper portion bears “厚德载物” (Hòu Dé Zài Wù), carved in Small Seal Script (小篆, Xiaozhuan). The saying expresses the capacity of profound virtue to sustain all things—a reminder to embrace life with generosity, integrity and strength of character. The flowing, stylised characters connect the pendant to the beauty of Chinese calligraphic tradition.
On the reverse, Taotie Wen (饕餮纹) features a symmetrical animal-mask design associated with the demoniac beast of Chinese mythology. Recognised in ancient Chinese bronze ornamentation, this striking motif brings historical depth and bold artistry to the jade.
This pendant honours natural beauty, cultural heritage, personal virtue and the wish for a peaceful life.
